Pensacon Update:

Blog: 02/20/2020

For the past three years that I’ve been cosplaying, I’ve always gone to my local convention, Pensacon. It’s located in Pensacola, Florida and its a medium sized convention. Its nothing like New York Comic Con or San Diego Comic Con but its all not as small as your 8 booth comic/anime convention either. Each year i’ve debuted a new version of my trademark costume “The Sparrow” at Pensacon and this year it will be no different. The current suit i’m working on, also known as the Sparrow Suit MK3, is by far my most ambitious project yet. Ive combined everything i’ve learned in these past 3 years into one singular project and its building up to be something i’m very proud of. It takes the aesthetic my Sparrow Suits are known for and changes it just enough to see growth and change while also keeping the feeling of familiarity. This suit gives a much more aggressive look as well. Ive added more texture and harsh lines throughout the suit. It feels like a final suit a Superhero would wear in his last movie. I have 8 days at the writing of this post to finish my costume. Im almost done. I just have to glue down some armor panels to my neck piece and sew up the gloves. But as a costumer I know that every day counts, and even though those two steps sound simple, there can be a thousand things that go wrong and cause me to bring an incomplete product to the convention. Sewing is definatly what i’m the least comfortable with and if you’ve made gloves you know that they can be one of the most difficult and tricky things to get right. This is the big scare for me as the gluing of the armor panels should be relativity simple since i’ve already sewn the neck piece and I know exactly where I will glue the panels down. Hopefully all will be smooth in this next week leading up the the convention and I can bring something i’m completely proud of. Ive attached some incomplete photos of the suit. Let me know if you have any questions or advice for getting more comfortable with sewing!
